Słupecki Klub Piłkarski jest bezpośrednim spadkobiercą MKS Pogoń Słupca, którego największym sukcesem była gra w III lidze. Pogoń Słupca to nieistniejący już klub powstały w 1964 roku. W latach 1978-1988 klub nosił nazwę MKS Budowlani, po tym okresie powrócił do starej nazwy, pod którą funkcjonował aż do 1999 roku. SKP aktualnie występuje w III Grupie Ligi Międzyokręgowej w Wielkopolsce i rozgrywa mecze na stadionie miejskim mieszczącym się w Słupcy przy ulicy Gajowej.
